Thought to be one of the biggest real estate deals in Rockland recently, it is being hailed by local officials both as a sign of a strong rental market and possibly good news for taxpayers, the lohud.com report said.

Clarkstown’s assessor told lohud.com that the purchase price means the complex is worth a whole lot more than what’s currently on the tax roll.

Known locally as Avalon Gardens, the 64-building community -- and its 504 apartments spread over 54 acres -- was bought by Harbor Group International LLC and Azure Partners LLC from AvalonBay Communities Inc., lohud.com’s report said.

Located off Smith Road in the hamlet of Nanuet, the complex’s new name, lohud.com said, will be "The Peaks of Nanuet Apartment Homes."
