SUFFERN, N.Y. -- Weather experts are predicting this summer will be hotter and rainier than normal, with the warmest periods coming in late June, mid-July, and early and late August. Knowing that, Daily Voice went to Suffern resident Eric Buchalter, owner of Design Air Inc . in Hillburn, to get his advice.Buchalter recommends having your air conditioning system checked and serviced before it gets too hot. "Take advantage of the service specials that are going on now," he said. "And if you're thinking about installing an A/C unit, there are a variety of rebates available, from us, the manufacturers, and the utility companies."
What you don’t want to happen, he said, is to have your air conditioning unit break down or refuse to start when you need it most. "Maintaining your A/C system by getting a yearly tune up is more efficient for your house and your wallet," he advises.
Additionally, keep the filter clean and change it every year to improve performance and save money.
Lastly, it may seem obvious, but remember that when you're using your air conditioner, keep all windows and doors closed tight.
Buchalter prides himself on the personal service a local company like his offers. Design Air, which recently unveiled a new logo to reflect its growth and success in the area, was founded in 1984. Buchalter said he always wanted to operate his own business and felt he could provide a service to homeowners that was better than anything he saw available at the time.
The company has since grown from a small business focusing on heating and cooling to a much larger, well established organization providing the latest advancements in heating and cooling technology. A fireplace component, Fireplaces By Design, was added in 1993.
Another point of pride for Buchalter is his involvement in the community. "I live here, work here, and am raising my family here," he said. "The people in the community are my customers, neighbors, and many are my friends.
"Supporting local causes including schools, religious organizations, first responders and youth programs is my way of giving back and showing appreciation for the trust our customers have in us."
