SUFFERN, N.Y. - Downtown Suffern’s Mia’s Kitchen has been on a mission to bring “fresh, healthy, and great tasting food to the community” since it was founded in June of 2014.
Suffern residents Michael Narciso and Cynthia Gray started the family owned, health conscious lunch spot, Mia’s Kitchen, after Narciso took it upon himself to fulfill what he considered to be a pertinent need in the village.
“I was walking my kids every day in town when I realized there was no place to get a sandwich anywhere,” recalled Narciso.
Although Narciso's kernel of an idea was essential, it lacked ambition.
Mia’s Kitchen “evolved into what it is today,” after Narciso and Gray listened to the needs of their customers face-to-face upon the restaurant’s opening. That’s when the restaurant really began to blossom.
Soon enough, Mia’s menu began to expand well beyond simply making sandwiches.
“There’s a lot more people nowadays who are health conscious, gluten-free conscious especially. There are a lot of vegans around here too. So that all played into how we started out,” Narciso explained.
Today, Mia’s Kitchen is well known for their diverse, healthy range of choices including wraps, salads, paninis, and smoothies, to name a few.
Mia’s Kitchen prides itself on being able to provide everything from kale to comfort food.
“If you can’t find something to eat here, then you can’t find something to eat anywhere,” affirmed Narciso.
With 35 years of experience in the food industry, Narciso understands what it takes to qualify for culinary excellence.
“I don’t do anything fancy,” explained Narciso. “Basically it boils down to good ingredients.”
This down to earth approach extends over into everything about Mia’s Kitchen including the restaurant’s atmosphere.
Jimi Hendrix and the Rolling Stones can regularly be heard playing over the radio inside of Mia’s and with all the art hanging on the walls inside, customers tend to feel more like they’re in Haight Ashbury than in downtown Suffern. In essence, Mia’s Kitchen is as much an experience as it is a restaurant.
