And so, the two teachers -- they both still work in the Union City School District -- have opened Elite Driving Academy as a way to make inroads (no pun intended) into the community.

The school opened in Woodcliff Lake in February featuring a state-of-the art car equipped with a dual brake and an accelerator.

Matthew, who is a High School Health, Drivers Ed and Phys Ed teacher, has plenty of behind the wheel experience, while Stacey mans the business end. So far they're not driving each other crazy --"We like working together," said Stacey -- and have, through word of mouth, attracted a group of students.

The Montvale residents and parents of two are active in the community and believe strongly in doing what they can to keep the roads safe. The business also works with their lifestyle as they can do it after school hours.

Working with kids for so many years --- they've both been teaching for close to 20 years -- means they know how to keep kids motivated.

They also know what parents (their ultimate clients) are looking for in a driving school.

"We both know how scary it can be to put your child behind the wheel which is why we're so passionate about providing the safest and best instruction," said Stacey.

Elite Driving Academy is at 172 Broadway, Suite 214, 201-573-0502, www.elitedrivingacademynj.com .
