They are saying that Nick Sirico of WoodArt Design, formerly of Tenafly, had them pay a portion of the money up front before he disappeared with their money — and their cabinets.
Neither Nick Sirico nor his wife Rose Sirico returned Daily Voice's four phone calls — two to each of them, placed last week and on Sunday evening.
Daily Voice spoke with two couples who are alleging that the Siricos stole their money.
The Robbins' Story
Jesse and Bernadine Robbins were living in Tenafly when they hired Oradell's Nick Sirico of WoodArt Design to renovate their soon-to-be Demarest kitchen.
After giving him their $15,000 deposit for the cabinets, Sirico was nearly impossible to get a hold of, the Robbins told Daily Voice.
"Our main goal is that we don’t want him to do it to anyone else because it’s disgusting," Bernadine of Demarest told Daily Voice.
"I couldn't live with myself knowing that I didn't make some attempt to make sure he didn't do it to anyone else."
The couple filed a criminal complaint against Nick Sirico of WoodArt Design in Tenafly.
The Robbins' said Sirico was nearly impossible to get a hold of from the get-go, but stopped responding altogether in August after he received the Robbins' money, the couple said.
The Robbins took matters into their own hands in November — the week Sirico said he'd install the cabinets — and called the manufacturers.
"They said they had the order on file, but didn't receive a payment so they cancelled it," said Bernadine, a New City, N.Y. native.
"Meanwhile, Nick told us the cabinets were still coming when they had never even been produced."
Sirico blew off the first court appearance in February, and requested a postponement at the second date in March. In April, the case was postponed until June.
While in court, the Robbins' met two other couples who were there for the same reason that they were.
The Boeckels' Story:
Chris and Patrice Boeckel of Essex Fells have been living in an apartment for more than a year while their house — the Sirico promised to finish — comes together.
Their story played out exactly like the others, the couple said.
Sirico promised the Boeckels a great deal if they paid for 80 percent of the work up front. They did — a check for $24,000 and $2,500 in cash.
"He wasn’t the cheapest but he was the one who made us feel most at ease about what we were getting into," Patrice told Daily Voice.
"The day Rose came into it was the day we gave them the money."
"He always told us we were right on schedule," Chris added. "But then the week of the project [November 2015] came and he wasn't there."
In January 2016, the Boeckels, too, called their manufacturer who told them that their orders had never been paid for. It was then that they realized they'd never see Sirico, or their promised kitchen from him.
The couple filed two criminal complaints in Tenafly, and one in Bergen County Superior Court.
"I’ve never given anyone so much money in my life," Chris said. "He definitely hooked me, and that being said I don’t want to see this happen to another younger couple just starting out with little kids.
"We have lived a nightmare."
