Cooper, on the other hand, prefers to sit on people’s laps during the day.

And they both get excited when the UPS man appears at the door – after all, he comes bearing treats.

For about 5 years, ever since Richard Delaney, the company’s chief technology officer, rescued Sunny – a yellow lab – Delaney Computer Services has been a dog-friendly workplace.

“We work a lot and it’s just not fair to leave the dogs at home all day,” Delaney explained, as Sunny lay at his feet and Cooper sat on his lap.

“One of the perks of being self-employed is you get to make the rules … I brought the dog in."

And then other people started bringing their dogs in. When Daily Voice visited the office on Friday, four dogs were spending the day there.

Linda Akerman explained she feels bad leaving her dogs at home, but she doesn’t have to. “There is food here, snacks here, toys here,” she said.

“If more businesses allowed it, I think it would allow more people to rescue and adopt dogs,” Akerman said.

Employees said the benefits far outweigh the minor inconveniences -- Akerman said the worst thing that’s happened is that some of the dogs haven’t been house broken enough.

The dogs seem to be a benefit to employees’ physical and mental health. When people feel they have to get up and move away from their computers, they take a dog outside for a walk.

“You can pet a dog and you feel more calm, and they do offer a form of entertainment,” said Jonathan Seidman, who brings his dog, Mr. Chops, to the office.

And clients enjoy the dogs too.

“Ninety-nine percent of the customers that come in here, they love seeing the dogs,” Delaney said.

“Some people just come to see the dogs,” and even bring them toys, he added.

Delaney Computer Services provides IT support to small and mid-market businesses, and is located at 575 Corporate Drive in Mahwah. It recently consolidated its Sloatsburg, N.Y. and Paramus offices into one Mahwah office.
