The fast-food chain sponsors “Get Togethers,” as a way of raising funds for community organizations.
In this case, a portion of the proceeds from food sales from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, will got to Worldwide Community First Responder.
The Wendy’s is located at 90 East Route 59.
The nonprofit was founded by Spring Valley resident Jacqueline Cassagnol in 2011.
Cassagnol, a registered nurse and professor at Dominican College, had traveled to Haiti in 2010, right after the small Caribbean country was hit by an earthquake that killed more than 100,000 people.
Cassagnol’s parents are natives of Haiti and family members still live there.
The devastation and preventable deaths she saw there, she says, illustrated the need to teach people community based first response basic first aid skills.
Now her all-volunteer organization works to prevent deaths worldwide through education and training. It also provides free community health screening and teaches folks hands-only CPR and disaster preparedness.
