ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Literature and poetry are celebrated in two upcoming events in Rockland County.

Suffern Poetry is having a poetry open mic, featuring Boston "slammaster" Simone Beaubien on Saturday from 6:30-9 p.m. at Suffern Village Hall, 61 Washington Ave., Suffern.

This monthly poetry slam open mic happens in Suffern the third Saturday of each month in the Village Hall's community room. Parking is ample behind the building and next to the Lafayette Theater. The venue is a five-minute walk from the Suffern train station (Main/Bergen/Port Jervis lines from Secausus).

Anyone can sign up to read five minutes of original poetry.

Doors/sign-ups begin at 6:30 PM. Poetry starts at 7:30 or so.

Admission is $5 donation at the door.

Then on Friday, April 29, North Rockland High School Writer's Club Arts Night will feature spoken word, music, artwork, food and more from 6-9 p.m. at the school, 106 Hammond Road, Thiells.

Visitors to this event will support the debut of the club's 2016 literary journal, Reflections, whose theme is "fusion."

The publication includes voices and artwork of young writers and artists throughout Rockland County.

Admission is $2.

Refreshments and food will be sold.
