SUFFERN, N.Y. - A musician-themed art exhibit from local artist Simon Jeruchim is on display at the Suffern Free Library until July 25.
In a statement, Jeruchim, who lives in Pomona, explained that he wanted to incorporate his own originality, humor, and zaniness in his depictions of musicians and singers. The depiction of musical instruments in art has occurred throughout history. Also integrated into the exhibit is Jeruchim's passion for cartoons.
Back in Paris as an art student, Jeruchim used to draw comic strips with his friends, something he carried with him to the United State Army where he saw his comics published in a newspaper distributed to soldiers.
"Remembering my love for cartoons, I incorporated humorous cartoon-looking characters in my paintings, which I hope will entertain the people viewing my exhibit at Suffern Free Library and remind them of the fun they have or have had enjoying comic strips," Jeruchim said.
Jeruchim and his wife, Cecile, are both Holocaust survivors. His exhibits have been displayed in libraries, community centers, and cultural centers throughout the county. He is also the author of "Hidden in France: A Boy's Journey Under The Nazi Occupation."
