Sip Away On National Hot Chocolate Day With Rockland's Finest

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. ---- There's one good thing about winter weather: indulging in a mug of frothy hot chocolate. And if someone adds marshmallows -- all the better!

Tuesday, Jan. 31 is National Hot Chocolate Day giving Rockland residents the perfect excuse to come in from the cold and have a "meltdown" with drinks that warm frosty fingers and toes. A sampling follows; feel free to comment here or on our Facebook page with your own suggestions.

American Bulldog Coffee Roasters, Chestnut Ridge: Organic chocolate makes this frothy concoction decadent and rich. Served like a latte, it's the perfect balance of chocolate and warmth in a cup. Warm Up: 787 Chestnut Ridge Rd., (845) 352-5282.

Art Café of Nyack, Nyack: Ghiradelli chocolate is used in the classic version at this popular Nyack spot designed like a Tel Aviv eatery. There's also a white hot chocolate option. Warm Up: 65 S. Broadway, (845) 353-4230

Bunbury’s Coffee Shop, Piermont: Indulge in double the chocolate fix with a touch of Nestle's mix and Hershey's, all added to steamed milk. Whipped cream optional. Warm Up: 460 Piermont Ave., (845) 398-9715.

Patisserie Didier Dumas, Nyack: The bakery uses its own chocolate ganache to make its velvety hot chocolate, which is combined with steamed milk. Handmade whipped cream is also available. Warm Up: 163 Main St., (845) 353-2031.

Red Hill Cafe, New City: Italian chocolate, steamed milk and lots of love goes into this housemade blend, made in fresh batches daily. You don't have to add the whipped cream but it's also homemade, upping the decadent factor. Warm Up: 241 S. Little Tor Rd., (845) 638-2233.

Runcible Spoon, Nyack: A special powder is made from scratch and mixed with hot milk for a rich, creamy concoction. Customers can also choose from a variety of syrups such as mint or hazelnut. Whipped cream optional. Warm Up: 37 N Broadway, (845) 358-9398.
