Grace VanderWaal, Suffern resident and “America’s Got Talent” standout, is in Los Angeles, preparing for a performance set to air on Tuesday night.
VanderWaal, who has skyrocketed to fame since performing an original tune on the national television show in June, performed at Suffern's Lafayette Theater last month of a crowd of about 1,000 people .
Before heading out west, the 12-year-old who Simon Cowell has called “ the next Taylor Swift ,” spoke to lohud.com about her writing process and life away from the music.
VanderWaal told lohud.com that her mother initially refused to buy her a ukulele, believing she’d never play it. The young VanderWaal used $50 from her 11th birthday to purchase her first ukulele, which is now her staple instrument, according to lohud.com.
The next episode of “America’s Got Talent” is to air at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, on NBC. The show will continue to air on Tuesdays and Wednesdays leading up to the show’s live finale on Sept. 14, according to lohud.com.
