RAMSEY, N.J. -- Happy birthday to Ramsey native and Saddle River resident, actor Danny Aiello.

He was the fifth of six children, raised by a blind mother whose husband abandoned the family.

His breakout film was in 1973 with Robert De Niro, "Bang the Drum Slowly." He co-starred with De Niro again in 1984's "Once Upon Time in a America."

Aiello is the winner of a Daytime Emmy and other awards "Do the Right Thing" and "Prêt-à-Porter." He was nominated for an Oscar for "Do the Right Thing."

He is married to Sandy Cohen since 1955 and they have three children and 10 grandchildren. One of their children, Danny Aiello III, a stuntman, died in 2010.
