The news came during the first half hour of the show as VanderWaal and fellow vocalist Brian Justin Crum went through together. The news was announced after a long and dramatic pause from host Nick Cannon.

VanderWaal was voted through by the viewers at home and those watching live Tuesday night in the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

“Those two people standing right there are a higher level of talent than we’ve ever had,” judge Howie Mandel said of 12-year-old VanderWaal and Crum before predicting the pair will face off in the show’s final.

Just the night before VanderWaal was the last of 12 acts to perform during the last live show ahead of the semi-finals. Her performance of “Beautiful Thing,” a song about her older sister, Olivia, drew a standing ovation from the judges and the crowd.

“I am going to predict we’re all going to remember the moment in years to come when we saw Grace sing live for the first time,” judge Simon Cowell said.

Mandel also heaped praise on VanderWaal, forecasting that she would become the “the biggest star to ever come from ‘America’s Got Talent.’”

Tuesday was the last live show and last chance for contestants to progress to the semi finals of the competition.
