Saddle River News Producer Wins Emmy With '60 Minutes' Team

SADDLE RIVER, N.J. – Katie Kerbstat of Saddle River was a standout volleyball player at Immaculate Heart Academy in Washington Township.

Now she is an Emmy Award-winning television producer for CBS News.

Kerbstat, who graduated from IHA in 2007, recently won an Emmy with her “60 Minutes” team.

Kerbstat, correspondent Scott Pelley and producer Nicole Young won the award for outstanding writing for their story “The White Helmets.”

The piece focuses on the Syrian Civil Defense, a trained volunteer force of 3,000 rescue workers. The group – also known as the White Helmets because of the helmets they wear – rescue people from rubble and bombed out buildings in Syria.
