State Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffe, Mayor Ed Markunas, and County Legislator Alden Wolfe will join the farmers market's founders, the village Chamber of Commerce, and the Suffern Woman's Club for the 15th anniversary of the Suffern Farmers' Market on June 18.

"The market has evolved over the years from a group of a few farmers to a place where community members can gather and purchase a variety of prepared foods including jams, salsas, hummus, pickles, syrup, honey, baked goods, quiches, gluten free products and more," said Cara Cea, President of the Suffern Farmers' Market.

The market was originally founded in 2001 by the Suffern Civic Association with the intention of creating events in order to cultivate a vibrant downtown and put feet on Lafayette Avenue to frequent local shops. Cea came on board in 2007 after gaining recognition for winning The Journal News Locally Grown cooking contest. She's been an active member ever since.

"Farmers' markets are an important source of locally grown and prepared foods in an era when factory farms provide the bulk of foods consumed and consumers too often have little to no contact with those that produce their food," Cea on the market's importance, adding the foods at the market are natural, locally produces, and don't have any preservatives or GMOs.

The market boasts upwards of 20 food and craft vendors on their website including Orange County vendors Do Re Mi Farms for produce and Woodside Blue Preserves for jams and jellies. Children's activities are also offered at the market, along with live music.

The market opens up at 8:30 a.m. and runs until 1 p.m.
