It's not something the longtime chief likes to do, but he does it every time a police officer loses their life in the line of duty to help the ones left behind.

He has raised thousands of dollars by selling T-shirts for many families, and although it's a great cause, it's also sad because if Osborn is selling T-shirts it means another officer has fallen.  This is the fifth time Osborn has sold T-shirts since December 2014.

This time, Osborn, along with some of his colleagues, will be selling T-shirts to help the family of slain NYPD Officer Miosotis Familia, a single mother of three. Familia, 48, was shot last week while sitting in her patrol car. Her killer, Alexander Bonds, who was on probation for robbery, was killed by police minutes later.

On Facebook, the chief said: "As is the case with most of us in these types of situations, my first reaction was anger and frustration at this killing and I found myself saying some choice words out loud early Wednesday morning in response to this line of duty death. To turn this anger into something a bit more positive, I decided, along with some of my good colleagues here at Suffern PD, to put together a fundraiser for the fallen officer's family as she was a single mother with three children.

The T-shirts will read "In Memory of Miosotis Familia" with the NYPD logo, and "Suffern PD Supports the NYPD." will go on sale at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 13 in front of the Suffern Police Department, 61 Washington Ave.

Shirts are $20 each for small to XL and $22 for sizes XXL through 4XL. All proceeds from the shirts go directly to the family.

The shirts will also be on sale:

  • Friday, July 14th: 4-7 p.m. in front of Suffern PD.
  • Saturday, July 15th: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in front of Suffern PD.

For those that can't attend, T-shirts can be mailed. Make checks payable to Suffern DARE and send your order with shirt sizes to Suffern Police DARE, 61 Washington Ave., Suffern NY 10901, Att: Chief Osborn. Please add $5 per shirt for shipping charges.
