ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. - A driver allegedly operating his vehicle while on drugs nearly destroyed a utility pole in Montebello after losing control of his car and crashing into it.

Officers from the Ramapo Police Department were dispatched to Mile Road in Montebello on late on Thursday afternoon where there were reports of a single-car motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival at the scene, investigating officers determined that the operator of the vehicle, a 21-year-old man from New Jersey and police said he was exhibiting signs that he was under the influence of drugs. The man was placed under arrest and brought to the Ramapo Police Department for processing.

Police said that Utilities crews from Orange and Rockland County responded to the scene on Thursday night to make repairs to the pole. The roadway remained open during repairs, which have since been completed.
