The identity has been released for a 25-year-old man who was killed in a single-car crash early Saturday morning on Route 117 about one-eighth of a mile east of the entrance to Rockefeller State Park in Westchester, Mount Pleasant Police said.

Connor Estavillo of Briarcliff Manor was driving alone westbound in a 1994 Ford Mustang when he left the roadway, crossed the median and overturned in the westbound lanes, police said.

Friends of Estavillo, an Army specialist who served one year in Iraq, erected a welded cross as a memorial at the scene of his fatal crash.

Police said Estavillo was ejected from the Mustang and pronounced dead at the scene by Westchester EMS paramedics.

Pocantico Hills Fire Department responded to the accident and assisted with lane closures and lighting at the scene of the fatal crash, police said. The accident was reported to police at 4:26 a.m.

Jared Guy Thomas, a West Point graduate and candidate for U.S. Congress in Indiana, said in a Facebook post that Estavillo was a fellow member of the U.S. Army's 1st Squadron, 75th Cavalry Regiment. Estavillo served in the Army for nearly six years.

"Connor was a fighter," Thomas wrote. "Connor was a warrior. Connor was never afraid to 'march to the beat of his own drum.' We lost a good one."

Police ask anyone with information about the accident to call the Mount Pleasant Police Detective Division at (914) 769-1941.
