Though an opening date has been set for the new Tappan Zee Bridge, Rockland County Executive Ed Day said he is remaining focused on some unanswered questions.

“Rockland County has been eagerly anticipating the new bridge for years and we will rejoice on August 25 when the first part of the span opens," Day said. "The fully opened new bridge will serve as an economic boom to our region. The project, however, is far from over."

Day said questions remain about the new bridge, including how much tolls will increase.

"We have to be ready to fight any increase that will deter people from coming to Rockland to work or shop or dine or otherwise negatively impact our residents," Day said. "We also need to remain focused on the Lower Hudson Transit Link that will improve transportation within Rockland County and the region."

On the evening of Friday, Aug. 25, into Saturday morning, Aug. 26, the Thruway Authority and TZC will shift four lanes of Rockland-bound traffic to the new span, the governor's office said.

Four lanes of eastbound/southbound traffic will remain on the existing bridge.

The new traffic configuration will remain in effect for a couple of months until the Westchester-bound traffic will be shifted to the new span, utilizing four lanes of traffic, the governor's office said.

The traffic on the new span will be separated by a jersey barrier and that traffic pattern will remain in effect until the second span is completed.
