Police In Stony Point Call Off Pursuit Of Dangerous Suspect

STONY POINT, N.Y. -- Stony Point Police have released new informed surrounding the pursuit of a suspect in the area on Friday, leading to an alert for residents to stay indoors.

At 11:39 a.m. Friday, Antonio J. Kelly, a 31-year-old male with numerous outstanding warrants whose last known address is 40 S. Cole Ave. in Spring Valley, was at the Colonial Plaza. The department responded to the shopping center and located the subject exiting a business. Upon attempting to place the subject under arrest, he fled.

Subsequently, a perimeter was established and a search of the surrounding area was conducted to no avail. The subject is wanted on several outstanding warrants by of the state police in Middletown for abandonment of a child, endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest and obstructing government administration. He is also wanted by the Clarkstown Police Department for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

A reverse 911 was sent out by the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office to alert residents regarding the police activity. The heading of the alert indicated it was an actual “Terrorist or Criminal Threat Alert,” however this was system error, and was a police emergency only. 

The Stony Point Police were assisted by the Town of Haverstraw Police, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit, Rockland County Intel, Rockland County Sheriffs Aviation and Rockland County Patrol Units, the NY.Park Police K-9 Unit, the New York State Police, NYS Parole.Stony Point Police say the dangerous suspect they were pursuing Friday afternoon is at large and still wanted but he is out of the area and are they no longer pursuing him. He is still wanted by law enforcement. 

State police joined in the search that included canine units and a helicopter.

Police were looking for a subject near 146 S Liberty Drive. The police had urged residents in the area to stay indoors before calling off the search.

Schools in the vicinity were on lockdown, but after the search was called off, students were released at regular dismissal times.

If any one sees a 31-year-old black male 6 foot 2 inches 185 pounds with a large mole on his right cheek wearing a black sweat suit, sneakers with possibly a red trim and a hat or a do-rag please contact the Stony Point Police Dept ASAP at 845-786-2422.
