On June 14th, the Schneiders, along with a handful of other married couples, will renew their vows in a symbolic ceremony at The Esplanade, an independent-living facility with about 100 residents. Orangetown Supervisor Andy Stewart will officiate the ceremony.
The Schneiders lived in New Jersey until crossing the border into Rockland for their golden years, 16 months ago. The Esplanade is like hotel living: "My hands do not touch cold water," said Marilyn, who enjoys the meals, and having her laundry done.
Hy, too, appreciates the perks, like the company car that shuttles them to doctors' appointments or to shop.
At 93 years old -- which he by no means looks or acts -- Hy is thrilled to have his bride by his side. And he's looking forward to renewing his vows. "It does make me think about everything we've been through, and how lucky we are to have each other."
