SUFFERN, N.Y. -- Rockland Community College is now offering a new associate's degree that provide students with the necessary educational background to pursue a wide range of health care careers.

The two-year program, which culminates in an Associate in Science degree, is designed specifically for students to transfer to a four-year college or university, where they can complete a bachelor’s degree in public health or a related field of study, according to a press release from Rockland Community College.

The curriculum includes core courses in public health, along with the general education requirements that would be included in the first two years of study at a four-year institution.

Public health professionals work within a variety of settings, including state and local health departments, hospitals, workplace wellness programs, government agencies, educational institutions, research organizations, and international development agencies, the release said.

The degree is offered by SUNY Orange County Community College through the Hudson Valley Educational Consortium, and is available online to Rockland Community College students.

“Thanks to the steady job growth in the healthcare industry in our area, a public health degree is an excellent option for students interested in a healthcare career outside of direct patient care,” said Cliff Wood, Rockland Community College president. “This program will help students build a broad base of healthcare knowledge, and introduce them to a variety of health care careers.”

Prospective students interested in the public health degree should contact admissions at (845) 574-4224 or admissions@sunyrockland.edu.
