The following is planned on Jan. 16 the "Day of Remembrance."
Schools will hold a moment of silence during morning announcements to honor the lost lives of the earthquake victims.
A candlelight vigil will be from 4 to 5 p.m. at Konbit Neg Lakay, 16 East Church St. in Spring Valley, with a moment of silence at 4:53 p.m., the exact time of the earthquake on Jan, 12, 2011.
A Memorial Mass is set for 7 p.m. at St. Joseph's Church on North Main Street, followed by a presentation of RCHRC projects, "Assemblies Haiti: 5 Years Later" presentation by youth in the auditorium.
The youth conference will be held earlier that day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Joseph's auditorium and is open to middle and high school economic, history and PIG classes, as well as relevant clubs (key club, builders club, Haitian club).
Children are asked to wear red and blue clothing, the colors of the Haitan flag and donate $2 to the Rockland County Haiti Relief Fund to help build the Grand-Goave educational center and purchase a water purification system.
The Charity Fundraiser banquet is set for 7 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza in Airmont.
The cost to attend is $100 donation.
Schools are encouraged to present an assembly presentation during the week and RCHR members and poster-size pictures and a slide show presentation are available.
