SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. -- Spring Valley Mayor Demeza Delhomme is still receiving his paycheck although village trustees passed a resolution in March to cut his pay after he purchased a 2014 Ford Expedition to use for work, according to lohud.com.
No one is sure why Delhomme is still receiving his $115,000 salary two months after the vote, including his lawyer Kenneth Brown, who sent a letter to trustees in April requesting they rescind the resolution. Trustees passed the resolution saying he didn't pre-approve the purchase with them in 2014, said lohud.com.
The resolution calls for the mayor to repay the $47,487.50 cost of the SUV by garnishing his salary. The mayor said the trustees don't have the authority to garnish his wages and he uses the vehicle for village business. He added that when he is done being mayor he will return the vehicle to the city, added Lohud.com.
