RAMAPO, N.Y. -- State officials have ordered Spring Valley to begin inspecting buildings and schools that are filled with fire and safety violations or face a potential takeover, according to lohud.com.

The Division of Building Standards and Codes order follows an agency investigation that revealed uninspected buildings that potentially endanger students, tenants, and first-responders, added lohud.com.

The village has 30 days from Oct 6 to make the changes or face state action, lohud.com said.

The investigation found failures by Spring Valley to inspect buildings and schools, as well failing to meet the minimum standards required for issuing building permits, requiring permits, conducting construction inspections, and issuing certificates of occupancy, reported lohud.com.

In March, state codes employees spent days with building officials, interviewing employees, reviewing files, and attending site visits, inspections and court appearances before issuing the order, said lohud.com.
