Clarkstown Police Detective Frederick J. Parent died Tuesday following a brief illness. He was 52.

Clarkstown Chief Raymond McCullagh announced Parent's death on Facebook, saying Parent was "not only a solid detective but a true friend who will be missed by everyone in our building."

He began his career with the Clarkstown Police Department in July of 1991 as a dispatcher. On July 29, 1996, Parent was sworn in as a police officer and he was issued badge #115. In May of 2005, he was promoted to detective in the Juvenile Aid Bureau, said Officer Peter Walker.

During his years as a detective, he became an expert in solving fraud and credit card crimes.

He was a lifelong member of the Nanuet Volunteer Fire Department. He joined in 1990 and rose through the ranks, serving as Chief (8-1) in 2000.  He was also was instrumental in molding the direction of the department by serving on the Board of Commissioners from 2008-2010.

Some of his noticeable accomplishments was serving upstate in Moorestown for the ice storms of 1998 and assisting in the acquisition of the fire prevention trailer.

He is survived by his wife and three children.

Arrangements will be announced as they are confirmed.
