Hudson Valley Educator Shannon Blackwell-Lengyel Dies Of Cancer At 47

Longtime Northern Westchester resident Shannon Eileen Blackwell-Lengyel died on Thursday Oct. 26. She was 47 and suffered from cancer.

Shannon was born on Feb. 4, 1970 and was mother to Rex Lengyel, Jr.. as well as companion to Rex Lengyel Sr. She was daughter to Elizabeth Blackwell of Old Bridge, NJ. She was preceded in death by her father, Terence Blackwell. She leaves behind six siblings and eleven nieces and nephews.

Shannon, who lived in Armonk, grew up in Old Bridge, NJ. She graduated from the of the College of New Rochelle. While working in advertising, Shannon got her Masters degree in education from Mercy College. She was an outstanding educator who was adored by colleagues and students in Westchester, including during her time in the Yorktown Central School District.

Shannon was also a gifted writer.

A wonderful and kind woman of God, she openly shared her battle against the rare form of cancer so others could draw strength from her determination to defeat this horrible disease. She wanted nothing more than to just be present for all of the wonderful events her 13-year-old has yet to experience. Her eloquent articles inspired many. She was so much more than words can adequately express.

She was a great friend. Shannon made everyone feel truly important. She rarely ever complained and could always manage a smile even through immense suffering. 

Services for Shannon will be held on Sunday, Oct. 29 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cassidy-Flynn Funeral Home at 288 Main St. in Mount Kisco. The funeral is at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church at 7 Pound Ridge Road in Bedford.
