John F. 'Sean' Devery, Sr., 88, Suffern Resident

SUFFERN, N.Y. — Suffern resident John F. “Sean” Devery, Sr. died on Sunday, May 15. He was 88. 

He was born on Oct. 17, 1927, to John and Margaret Devery in Shannonbridge, County Offaly, Ireland.

For many years he was a salesman for Rheingold Breweries.

He was a past president of the Rockland County Ancient Order of Hibernians, and a volunteer at Good Samaritan Hospital. 

Devery is survived by his children Ann and her husband, Edward Hotchkin, Geralyn and her husband, Peter Booth, and Jack and his wife, Roberta Devery; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. 

He also is survived by his brother, Kieran Patrick and his wife, AnnDevery, and his ex-wife, Nancy Devery.

A Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 125 Lafayette Ave., in Suffern on Thursday, May 19, at 10 a.m. 

Interment will be at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, in Nanuet. 

Scarr Funeral Home, 160 Orange Ave., in Suffern handled arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that one consider a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or a children’s charity of one’s choice.
