Richard (Dick) Freud, a 52 year resident of Pearl River, died Wednesday, June 21, at The Joe Raso Hospice Residence in New City, at the age of 86.

Freud, who served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War as an Army Ranger, worked for the New York City Police Department for more than 33 years as a Lieutenant in the Mid-Town North Precinct.

He later enjoyed retirement with his wife of 62 years, Rita, splitting their time in Sun City, Ariz., for a number of years, before returning full time to Pearl River.

Born in Jackson Heights, Queens on August 15, 1930, to Emily and Emanuel Freud, he was predeceased by his parents.

He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Margaret R. C. Church. He volunteered for over 20 years as bingo captain; church lector; Eucharistic Minister and altar server. He was a member of the Pearl River Elks; Knights of Columbus and former treasurer for the New York City Police Department's Anchor Club and the Rockland County Shields.

Freud was an avid hockey fan and enjoyed playing hockey for the NYPD and playing with the retired NYPD and FDNY members. He later became an official referee for the bantam league at West Point Military Academy until he was 78, when he finally hung up his skates.

He is survived by his wife Rita A, Freud; his children, Susanne (Bill) Shand of Beacon, NY; Cathleen (Richard) Peslak of Highland Lakes, N.J.; Michael (Kathy) Freud of Amherst, N.H.; Richard( Eileen) of Pearl River; Matthew (Nancy) Freud of Shrewsbury, Mass.; his grandchildren: Timmy, Devlin, Liam, Amanda, Alex, Jamie, Nick, Olivia; Emily, Kaitlyn, Ashley and Kevin.

Services have been held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to The Joe Raso Hospice Residence, 415 Buena Vista Rd, New City, NY 10956.
