Ramapo police responded to the building Wednesday afternoon to find that the ceiling in one apartment had fallen due to "an unknown reason," according to a statement on the department's Facebook page.
During the course of the investigation, officials found that ceilings in an adjacent building are also "showing signs of distress."
Ramapo police called upon the village of Chestnut Ridge building inspectors to determine how the ceilings were compromised. The results of those inspections were not available Wednesday night.
According to police, no one was injured in the ceiling collapse.
