When officers on the midnight shift arrived at the store they found a 35-year-old female, her ex-husband and a 16-year-old male who were arguing with each other as numerous bystanders watched from the sidelines, Ramapo police said.
Both the female, and the teen were taken into custody for disorderly conduct, and for resisting arrest, police said. The woman was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child after police discovered she left her young children at home alone, police said.
Child Protective Services were notified to make sure the children were cared for and safe, they added
Later in the investigation, the ex-husband claimed that the 16-year-old forcibly stole his phone while he was calling the police for help and that he could not locate it after the altercation.
Officers called the phone, and it rang in the bag of property taken from the teen. He was additionally charged with robbery and criminal possession of stolen property.
The two were brought before the court and bail was set by the judge. They are scheduled to appear in court in August.
