The incident, which occurred around 4:58 p.m. on Johanna Lane, happened when an American Latina Taxi operated by Jorge Garrangui-Castillo, 41, of Monsey picked up two people at the home and was backing out of the driveway when the cab struck the infant, who was sitting in the driveway, said Det. Sgt. Brian Corbett.

According to Corbett, there was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement, but Garrangui-Castillo was found to be unlicensed at the time of the accident.

The baby was transported by Hatzolah Ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital where he later died.

He will receive a ticket for unlicensed operation. Additional tickets may be forthcoming upon the completion of the investigation, Corbett added.
