Man Caught With Loaded Assault Rifle After Route 17 Crash In Goshen

A 35-year-old intoxicated motorist who crashed his Chevrolet pickup truck off the road, striking a vehicle parked on the shoulder on Route 17 in Orange County, is behind bars after police found he was in possession of an  assault rifle.

The investigation after the crash on Sunday, Jan. 21 in Goshen determined that Jeffrey Burns of Fort Morgan, Colorado was intoxicated, state police said.

Further investigation revealed that he was in possession of a loaded AR-15 as well as several magazines and several hundred rounds of ammunition, state police said.

Burns was placed under arrest and charged with three counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, felonies, and driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor. 

He was arraigned in the Town of Goshen Court and remanded to the Orange County Jail with no bail set.
