Man Who Pulled Over To Urinate Charged With DWI, Ramapo Police Say

CHESTNUT RIDGE, N.Y. -- Ramapo police arrested a motorist on a DWI charge after an incident in Chestnut Ridge on Saturday, police said.

The arrest came about when a patrol officer in the village investigated a car parked on the shoulder of Chestnut Ridge Road, according to police.

As the officer approached in his marked police car, he saw a male standing at the side of his vehicle preparing to urinate, police said.

When the male saw the police car, he got into the driver’s seat of his vehicle and prepared to drive away, according to police.

The officer activated his emergency lights, stopping the motorist from pulling out into traffic; upon speaking with the motorist, the officer determined he had the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, police said.

Following a series of field sobriety tests, the officer determined that the motorist was intoxicated, according to police.

The suspect was taken into custody and charged with DWI, police said.

He is to scheduled to appear in the Village of Chestnut Ridge Justice Court on Wednesday, Oct. 26, according to police.
