RAMAPO, N.Y. -- A local landlord is facing harassment charges after he was accused of spitting on a former tenant, Ramapo police said.

The unidentified 60-year-old Montebello man was arrested Thursday.

The tenant was trying to retrieve her security deposit on her former apartment when the alleged discharge of saliva occurred, police said.

Other arrests police said they made Thursday were for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, driving with a suspended registration and unlawful possession of marijuana.

They also charged a 50-year-old woman from Spring Valley with shoplifting at a local pharmacy and a man with disorderly conduct at the Palisades Credit Union Ballpark.

Altogether Thursday, Ramapo Police handled 139 calls for service, including four medical emergencies, 17 alarm activations and six fires.

They also investigated 11 motor vehicle accidents in the following locations: Airmont (two), Monsey (two), Montebello, Hillcrest, Chestnut Ridge, New Hempstead, Hillburn, Tallman, and Sloatsburg.

One of these accidents involved injuries, and one was a hit-and-run, police said.
