RAMAPO, N.Y. -- A Suffern man who fell asleep drunk on the side of the road, threw a beer bottle out the window when a police officer walked up to his vehicle on Saturday, according to Ramapo Police.

Pierre Alexandre, 54, was stopped on the side of Hemion Road in the Village of Montebello when a Ramapo Police Officer approached his vehicle, said Det. Lt. Mark Emma.

The officer had stopped because the engine was running and Alexandre appeared to be asleep at the wheel, police said.

When the officer approached the car, Alexandre woke up and tossed a beer bottle out of the car and into the woods, Emma said.

He was charged with DWI, open container and littering.

He was released and is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
