ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- A man found himself behind bars after wrecking his vehicle in Spring Valley early Friday while driving drunk at twice the legal limit, according to the Ramapo Police.

The unidentified 23-year-old man from Athens, Ga., was arrested after Ramapo police responded to a report of a car accident at 2:46 a.m. on Gerow Avenue in Spring Valley, police said.

The caller told police that the people involved in the accident were intoxicated and trying to leave the scene, police said.

Several RPD midnight shift officers responded within moments and arrested the operator for aggravated driving while intoxicated.

Testing found the driver to be more than twice the legal limit. The man was being held at the Ramapo Police Department until he was arraigned later today.

There were no reported injuries during the accident.
