Members of the Orangetown Police Department conducted a traffic stop shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Sunday after Pomona resident Adam Epstein was spotted driving on Artopee Way when he drove up and over the curb on the side of the roadway.

During the subsequent stop, police said that while speaking with Epstein, they noticed a strong smell of alcohol on his breath, his eyes were bloodshot and he had slurred speech. Epstein proceeded to fail multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests at the scene and was taken into custody.

According to police, at Orangetown Police Headquarters, Epstein consented to a breathalyzer test and it was determined his blood alcohol content was more than triple the legal limit of .08 percent.

Epstein was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor count of aggravated driving while intoxicated. He has since been released and is due back in Nyack Justice Court next month, on Aug. 15.
