Brandyn Johnston, 24, was arrested after police tracked him to Mount Ivy following the attack which took place around 11:30 p.m. Sunday on West Clarkstown Road, said Officer Peter Walker, spokesman for the department.
Johnston stabbed his 29-year-old ex-girlfriend and 35-year-old man after kicking in the door to the home during a domestic dispute, Walker said.
By the time officers arrived, Johnston had fled the scene on foot. Officers searched the area but could not locate him. Rockland Paramedics and Nanuet EMS responded to treat the victims. Both victims were transported to Westchester Medical Center.
The woman had a stab wound in her torso area. She is expected to survive. The man had multiple stab wounds in his torso area. He is still being treated for severe stab wounds and is currently in intensive care. There is no prognosis on his condition at this time.
The victims have a 2-year-old boy in common who was home at the time of the incident. He was not injured and is staying with family.
Following the stabbing, investigators were able to track Johnston to a location in Mount Ivy, where he was arrested and taken to police headquarters for processing, Walker said.
He has been charged with felony attempted murder, burglary, felony criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child.
