Ramapo PD Honors 42 Members At Annual Awards Ceremony

RAMAPO, N.Y. -- The Ramapo Police Department hosted its annual Award Ceremony on Wednesday to recognize 42 members of the department, both officers, and dispatchers, for performing outstanding police work.

Awards were presented in five distinct categories: Meritorious 1st, Meritorious 2nd, Excellent Police Service, Honorable Service, and Lifesaving. 

Incidents included a police response to a murder-suicide call involving a suspect armed with a gun, the investigation and arrests in a murder-for-hire case, the apprehension of suspects stealing motorcycles on the midnight shift, several police confrontations with armed subjects, the investigation and arrest of a student who menacing others with a loaded gun on a school bus, and numerous arrests for felony weight drugs with one including a search warrant application. 

Lifesaving awards included several where officers administered Naloxone on the scene for opioid overdoses and one where a detective exited his police vehicle on the Tappan-Zee Bridge and physically restrained a distraught man who was going to commit suicide. 

One citizen was presented with the Civilian Service Award for rendering assistance to the department with respect to an attempted murder investigation. 

Members of the Department who retired over the past year were also recognized for their service.
