RAMAPO, N.Y. -- A Mahwah, N.J. man was arrested on a drunk driving charge on Wednesday after he was found passed out at the wheel in Airmont, Ramapo police said.

The police received a report of a possible intoxicated driver in the Airmont area about 7:15 p.m.

An officer found the car in a parking lot off North Airmont Road. The driver, a 43-year-old man was arrested on a driving while intoxicated charge. Due to his apparent level of intoxication, he was taken to the hospital to be evaluated. During processing at headquarters, it was determined that this suspect had a blood alcohol content which was over four times the legal limit of .08 in New York State. He was released to a family member and is due in Airmont Court later in June.

On June 1, Ramapo Police handled 134 calls for service, including 8 medical emergencies, 14 alarm activations, two fires and three arrests – one DWI, one bench warrant, and an arrest warrant for robbery in the first degree.

The department investigated six motor vehicle accidents at the following locations East Eckerson Road-Hillcrest, Catamount Drive-Hillcrest, Aberdeen Avenue-Chestnut Ridge, Ram Ridge Road-Chestnut Ridge, and 2 MVA’s on Route 59-Airmont. All of the accidents on Wednesday were property damage only with no reported injuries.
