RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Ramapo police have arrested a 26-year-old resident of New Hempstead on drug possession charges, following an incident at a local restaurant.
Ramapo police responded to a Montebello restaurant and attempted to render assistance to a man sweating and not feeling well on Friday, at approximately 7:19 p.m., officials report.
Officers observed that the man was showing signs of being under the influence of a foreign substance; further investigation uncovered marijuana and numerous small glassine envelopes containing what appeared to be heroin, police report.
The man was arrested for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and unlawful possession of marijuana, according to officials.
Ramapo police report 10 motor vehicle accidents in the Town of Ramapo on Friday, including:
Ladentown Road in Ladentown; Spook Rock Road in Wesley Hills; Route 59 in Airmont; Hubert Humphrey Drive in Chestnut Ridge; Rita Avenue in Kaser; North Main Street in Hillcrest; Route 306 in Viola; Dashew Drive in Tallman; Route 59 in Monsey; and South Airmont Road in Airmont.
Officers responded to 119 calls for service, 10 medical emergencies and three fires on Friday, according to police.
Police report a total of three arrests, including that of the Hempstead resident.
The two other arrests were for open warrants, one each from the Town of Ramapo Justice Court and the Town of Haverstraw Justice Court, according to officials.
