RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Ramapo police have arrested a 40-year-old Spring Valley resident on a DWI charge.

Police received a call about a vehicle in the area of Plum Road and Orchard Hill Drive Friday evening, according to officials. The caller reported the driver of the vehicle was yelling at pedestrians as they were walking, police report.

The vehicle was located by a responding officer, and the driver was found to be intoxicated, according to officials. The man was arrested and arraigned in Ramapo Justice Court; he is due back in court later this month, police report.

The Ramapo Police Department reportedly investigated a total of 16 motor vehicle accidents Friday.

Three hit-and-run accidents occurred on Summit Park Road, Old Nyack Turnpike and Altma Court in New Hempstead, according to officials.

The remaining accidents resulted in property damage only. The sites include Fairway Oval, Old Nyack Turnpike, two apiece on Red Schoolhouse Road and Viola Road, Remsen Avenue, Monsey Boulevard, East Eckerson Road, Route 202, Spook Rock Road, Route 59 and Main Street in Monsey.

Ramapo police responded to 139 calls for service Friday. Police rendered assistance in five medical emergencies, 17 alarm activations and six fire calls, officials report.

A total of five arrests were made, including the DWI. The other cases included criminal possession of a controlled substance, a suspended license, a warrant of arrest and unlawful possession of marijuana, police report.
