RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Ramapo police have charged a 38-year-old resident of Spring Valley with DWI and various vehicle and traffic violations following an incident in Hillcrest, police said.
The arrest came about when a patrol officer observed a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner about 3:19 a.m. Saturday, according to police.
The vehicle was stopped, and the officer investigated, leading to the arrest of the motorist, police said.
The suspect was held for arraignment Sunday morning; along with the other charges, he was charged on an outstanding bench warrant out of Spring Valley, according to police.
Ramapo police officers investigated four motor vehicle accidents on Saturday.
Sites of the crashes included Saddle River Road in Airmont, Cragmere Road in Airmont, Sherman Drive in Hillcrest and New Hempstead Road in New Hempstead.
Ramapo police responded to 81 calls for service Saturday, including nine alarm activations, a fire call and 12 medical emergencies, according to police.
Eight arrests were made. Charges included the DWI case, two domestic violence incidents, second-degree harassment, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and two arrests on charges of criminal possession of a weapon and menacing, police report.
