SUFFERN, N.Y. -- A Spring Valley man was put in jail for allegedly driving drunk and injuring another driver, then fleeing the accident scene, according to Ramapo police.
Police received a report Monday at 8 p.m. of a personal injury motor vehicle accident on Route 45 near Conklin Road, they said.
It was further reported that one of the drivers fled the scene before police got there, according to police.
The other driver suffered a minor injury and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment, police said.
The Rockland County Sheriff's Patrol assisted in finding the fleeing driver, age 46, according to the report.
He was charged with driving while intoxicated and other vehicle and traffic offenses, and held Tuesday at Ramapo Police headquarters awaiting arraignment at New Hempstead Justice Court, said police.
Police in Ramapo responded to motor vehicle accidents at Route 306 in Viola, Widman Court in Bluefield, Route 45 in Pomona, Main Street in Monsey, and Route 45 in New Hempstead, they said.
In total, the Ramapo Police Department responded to 105 calls for service, including:
- 14 alarm activations.
- 3 fires.
- 8 medical emergencies.
- 5 motor vehicle accidents.
- 2 Arrests: driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
