RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Ramapo police responded to Red School House Road on Wednesday after a contractor struck an underground gas line. No one was injured, but the incident prompted the department to remind residents and contractors to remember to place a location request with Dig Safely New York prior to digging.
In addition to the gas line break, officers also responded to 200 calls for service, including:
- Nine motor vehicle accidents. One accident resulted in injuries on Main Street in Hillcrest. Other accidents occurred on Dyster Way, Main Street and Route 306 in Monsey, Route 306, New Hempstead Road and Main Street in New Hempstead, Old Nyack Turnpike in Chestnut Ridge and Orange Turnpike in Sloatsburg.
- 10 medical emergencies.
- 13 alarm activations.
- 11 fires.
Officers also made two arrests, including charges for unlawful possession of marijuana and a warrant of arrest.
