ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- The accident on Monday on Monday in which a Spring Valley man plowed into a woman and her three children on Route 59, may have been fueled by road rage, according to multiple reports.

Albert Gomez, 62, plowed into the family, including a 38-year old mother and her three children — two daughters ages 13 and 9 and a 3-month-old son, around 2:45 p.m. as they walked along the westbound shoulder of Route 59 near Town Square Mall, said Ramapo Police Det. Sgt. Brian Corbett.

According to News12, police said that witnesses told them that Gomez became enraged when he was cut off in traffic by a white taxi, causing him to throw a cup out of the window and to begin weaving in and out of traffic chasing the taxi before hitting the family.

All of the injured were treated at the scene by Hatzolah Ambulance. The three females were transported to Westchester Medical Center. The male infant was transported to Nyack Hospital before later being transferred to Westchester Medical Center to undergo emergency surgery, police said.

Their conditions were not released Tuesday morning.

Gomez, who was driving a 1999 Toyota at the time, was not injured. He was charged with two counts of felony assault, two counts of misdemeanor assault, four counts of reckless endangerment and reckless driving, Corbett said.

He is being at the Rockland County Jail on $150,000 bail.

Ramapo Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact the Town of Ramapo Police at 845-357-2400.
