Police responded to the station after receiving a duress alarm from the station, said Det. Lt. Mark Emma.

Responding officers found that the clerk had gotten into a confrontation with Christopher Romero, 20, which led to the clerk being assaulted, he said.

Romero reportedly pushed the cash register and other items off the counter onto the clerk before fleeing the store, police said.

A Ramapo police officer located Romero while canvassing the area, Emma said.

Romero was charged with assault, criminal mischief and harassment. He was arraigned and is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
