Spring Valley police responded to a house on Church Street to the reports of a stabbing. When officers arrived they found a 25-year-old transgender man who had suffered multiple stab wounds to his chest and neck, said Detective Robert Brookstein.

According to Brookstein, the man was stabbed following an altercation with Eddy Perez-Zenteno, 31, of Spring Valley.

"The two men know each other," Brookstein said. "This was not a hate crime."

The victim was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern where he is still being treated, Brookstein said.

Spring Valley police were assisted in the investigation by the Rockland County Sheriff's Office and were able to identify Perez-Zenteno as the suspect. He was arrested around 8 p.m., he added.

Perez-Zenteno was charged with attempted murder and assault and was arraigned Tuesday, May 26 in Spring Valley Justice Court. He is being held on $100,000 bail.
