SUFFERN, N.Y. -- A 25-year-old Spring Valley man is facing multiple charges after Suffern police said he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s house and beat her up while her toddler was sleeping nearby.
Police said they responded to a 911 call Thursday from a 25-year-old woman at an apartment building on Oakdale Manor who said the man had suddenly appeared in her bedroom and started punching and slapping her.
Her tiny son was sleeping nearby, police said.
She also told police that when she tried to call for help, he grabbed the phone out of her hand, threatened to kill her and swung a bottle at her.
She managed to escape to another room, where she called police.
The suspect, who apparently had gained entry to the woman’s home through an unlocked bathroom window, was grabbed and cuffed while trying to exit the building, police said.
The unnamed suspect, who police say stole the victim’s house keys and identification, is now charged with second-degree burglary, first-degree possession of a forged instrument, third-degree assault, second-degree unlawful imprisonment, second-degree menacing, endangering the welfare of a child, fourth-degree criminal mischief, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and harassment.
The suspect was arraigned and sent to the Rockland County Jail on $20,000 bail.
It was not known Friday if the woman required medical attention.
